Position Summary:

The City of Thomaston is seeking passionate and experienced individuals to join us a Police Corporal. As a vital member of our team, you’ll play a pivotal role in supervising and executing uniform patrol and criminal investigation duties, ensuring the safety and security of our community.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervisory Leadership: Provide limited supervisory support, guiding and mentoring fellow officers to ensure the highest standards of performance and professionalism.
  • Law Enforcement Duties: Conduct patrols, enforce laws, respond to emergency calls, and investigate criminal activities, maintaining order and safety within our community.
  • Administrative Support: Assist in reviewing officer paperwork, conduct roll calls, schedule personnel, and ensure compliance with departmental regulations and procedures.
  • Training and Development: Serve as a Field Training Officer, providing guidance and instruction to new recruits, contributing to the growth and development of our team.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with community members, resolve conflicts, and foster positive relationships to enhance trust and cooperation between law enforcement and the public.
  • Additional Duties: Conduct roll call, complete line-up assignments, perform uniform and vehicle inspections, direct selective enforcement efforts, and manage evidence/property room operations as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Certification: Hold a valid Georgia Basic Peace Officer Certification, demonstrating your commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
  • Experience: Bring at least three years of law enforcement experience, including supervisory responsibilities, to effectively fulfill the duties of a Police Corporal.
  • Leadership Skills: Demonstrate strong leadership abilities, including the ability to supervise and mentor subordinates, make sound decisions under pressure, and resolve conflicts effectively.
  • License and Record: Maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license and a clean motor vehicle record, ensuring your readiness to respond to calls and maintain public safety.
  • POST Certifications: Possess a P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certification and a P.O.S.T. FTO (Field Training Officer) Certification, showcasing your expertise and qualifications for the role.
