Salary: $49,679.76 – $80,932.38 Annually

Position Summary:

To perform a variety of highly responsible and complex duties involving contact with the general public by phone and in person, and provide clerical and technical staff assistance to the Division of assignment. Four general areas of assignment include police records, front desk services, parking control and divisional secretary. The Police Department is a 24 hour community service organization. This position may involve rotating shifts and assignments, including weekends and holidays. Some assignments involve field work as well as office work.

Essential Functions:

• Type, record and/or file a wide variety of police related records, reports, miscellaneous documents and materials;

• Answer phones and provide information to the public and to other Department personnel;

• Conduct accurate and timely records and warrant searches;

• Copy and distribute documents and reports; and

• Receive and verify monies for posted bail and miscellaneous payments.

• Patrol an assigned area on foot or in a vehicle to enforce parking and related traffic regulations;

• Assist the public by providing directions and responding to questions and inquiries;

• Observe and report needed parking meter, street and sign repairs;

• Report the need for emergency police services where required;

• Maintain records relating to activities;

• Impound or store vehicles as required; and

• Perform crossing guard duties and direct traffic as assigned.

• Provide assistance to the public both by phone and in person;

• Write traffic collision and crime reports;

• Receive and verify monies for posted bail and miscellaneous payments;

• Perform fingerprinting of citizens and applicants;

• Inspect previously cited vehicles for correction verification;

• Receive and process miscellaneous police legal documents; and

• Process evidence and found property.

Requirements:

  • Prior public contact, clerical or police agency experience is highly desired.
  • Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade. College coursework is highly desirable.
  • Due to the performance of some field duties which require the operation of a personal or City vehicle, a valid and appropriate California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record are required.
