Salary: $45 – $49 per hour

Position Summary:

The Village of Ashville is seeking an experienced and dedicated Police Chief to lead our law enforcement team with integrity, professionalism, and a commitment to community safety. This is a leadership role that requires strong decision-making, strategic planning, and the ability to foster positive relationships within the department and the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Oversee and manage all police department operations, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and public safety.
  • Develop and enforce policies that align with modern law enforcement standards and community needs.
  • Lead, train, and support department personnel to maintain a high level of professionalism.
  • Actively engage with community members, local organizations, and government agencies to promote trust and transparency.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal law enforcement regulations.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and provide strong leadership in crisis situations.
  • This is a working Chief of Police position; the successful candidate may be required to perform patrol duties as needed and other duties and responsibilities assigned by Mayor or designee.

Requirements:

  • Extensive experience in law enforcement, with leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Graduation from a college or university with a bachelor’s degree in police science, law enforcement, criminal justice, public administration, or a closely related field
  • Completion of the basic law enforcement training academy or equivalent, or;
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong knowledge of police procedures, public safety strategies, and department management.
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to foster relationships with community leaders, government officials, and residents.
  • Valid OHIO State Driver’s License: Possession of an unrestricted license (except for corrective lenses) with the ability to meet the Village’s minimum guidelines for insurability.
  • Ability to Read/Speak English: Yes
  • Vision: As required by the Ohio Police and Fire Pension Fund Physical Requirements
