Salary: $20.83 – $31.24 Hourly.

Essential Functions:

  • This position is intended to provide an introduction to and on the job training in various elementary aspects of the Law Enforcement career field and simultaneous enrollment in a college curriculum.
  • Employee will be responsible for performing limited training level assignments in various areas of police work not requiring police authority.
  • This training and continuous enrollment in a college curriculum are designed to provide MCPD with applicants qualified to compete for appointment as a Police Officer Candidate.
  • Employees will learn numerous facts and procedures about police work and maintain continuous progress toward earning an Associates of Arts or bachelor’s degree.
  • Duties may include responding to questions and requests for information, receiving and issuing uniforms and equipment, taking fingerprints, receiving, and storing evidence, assisting with enforcement activities, performing analysis and preparing reports and performing other duties as assigned.
  • Employees will rotate through various assignments on a regular basis.
  • Employees will work 20 hours per week with flexible hours to accommodate class schedule.
  • Experience speaking and/or writing a second language in addition to English and residency in the National Capitol Region is a bonus.

Requirements:

  • Experience: None
  • Education: Completion of High School at the time of appointment.
  • Equivalency: None
  • Other: Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and must be at least 18 years old at the time of appointment.
  • License: Possession and maintenance of a valid Class “C” (or equivalent) driver’s license from the applicant’s state of residence at all times.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience and exposure to law enforcement gained through internship particularly with Montgomery County Police Department, military, ROTC, LCPS Leadership in Law Enforcement program, Volunteer, Explorer, or other programs.
  • Experience in a leadership capacity gained through athletics, school clubs, community involvement or other activities.
  • Experience that demonstrated initiative, drive and commitment to an activity or cause.
