Position Summary:

Police cadets shall manage their conduct, both on and off duty according to the standards provided by the City of Fairfax Human Resources Office and the City of Fairfax Police Department. Police Cadets will adhere to all department directives as non-sworn employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Cadets will be assigned to the Support Operations Division/Personnel Development Section. However, temporary assignments will be made based on staffing and agency needs. Factors such as staffing and agency needs may require the SOD supervisor to alter the timeline of assignments.
  • Police Cadets may work temporary assignments in any division and be exposed to the following.
  • Support Operations Division-Investigative techniques, Crime Scene Processing, Firearms instruction, Training.
  • Administrative Services Division-Emergency Communication Center, Property and Evidence.
  • Community Services Division- Special Events, Animal Control.
  • Patrol- Ride-A-Long Program, Patrol Techniques, Police Vehicle Operations, School Crossings, Parking Enforcement.
  • Professional Standards -General Orders, Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Under no circumstances are cadets authorized to perform law enforcement specific duties of a sworn officer.

Requirements:

  • Requires High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Must be a United States citizen eligible for employment.
  • Must have never committed, been involved in, or been convicted of a felony.
