Salary: $43,681.28 – $65,521.91 Annually

Position Summary:

The City of Reidsville Police Department is seeking motivated individuals who are interested in beginning a career in law enforcement through our Police Cadet Program. This position is designed for applicants who have not yet completed Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) but are committed to pursuing a career as a sworn law enforcement officer in North Carolina.

Selected candidates will be hired as Police Cadets and employed by the City of Reidsville while attending an approved BLET academy. The City will cover the cost of the training and provide compensation while the cadet completes both the classroom and practical components of the program.

During the training period, cadets will gain the foundational knowledge and practical skills required for law enforcement service, including criminal law, patrol procedures, investigations, defensive tactics, firearms training, and emergency response.

Upon successful completion of BLET, cadets become eligible for certification through the North Carolina Criminal Justice Education and Training Standards Commission and may be appointed as sworn police officers with the Reidsville Police Department.

Essential Functions:

• The following duties are those considered most essential to the position. This does not preclude the delegation of other duties considered as necessary by management to successfully complete an assignment or project. Attends and successfully completes the BLET certification course at an accredited and City of Reidsville Department-approved educational institution in the timeframe required. Effectively and professionally communicates, verbally and in writing, with BLET staff and City of Reidsville Department supervisory staff. Represents the City of Reidsville Police Department in a professional manner to the BLET staff and others. Assists with needs and tasks of the City of Reidsville Police Department as time permits. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Work in this class is described as medium. An employee must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, feeling, grasping, fingering, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.
• An employee must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze data and figures, perform extensive reading, use a computer terminal, complete visual inspection of small defects or parts, including the operation or inspection of machines, use measurement devices, and determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned.
• The employee is subject to hazards; includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving parts, electrical current, vibration, noise, oils, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to heat, and chemicals.
• The employee is required to wear a respirator. Working conditions include both inside and outside environmental conditions.
