Essential Functions:

  • Participates in a variety of law enforcement activities, which include assisting different internal departments with administrative duties or other needs.
  • Operates department computer equipment to review records, inquire about activities and programs, and input various data.
  • Must complete a minimum of 12 college hours each fall and spring semester and are required to attend assigned classes in a dedicated and timely manner.
  • May work up to 30 hours a week during the school term and up to 1000 hours of work per calendar year.
  • Must maintain a “C” or better in each class and maintain a G.P.A. of 2.0 to remain in the program.
  • Must comply with the same standards of conduct, on and off duty, as those for a police officer.
  • Can remain in the program until 60 college hours are obtained with a 2.0 GPA or better.
  • Within six months of their 21st birthday and obtaining the required college hours, the applicant is expected to apply and test for a police officer position with the department.
  • Performs all other duties assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must pass physical standard testing of sit-ups, push-ups, and mile-and-a-half runs.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, run, and drive to and from various work sites.
  • Must be able to lift boxes of material and mail.
  • Works regular business hours with occasional irregular hours, including weekends, holidays, and extended hours in emergency, disaster, or other situations influenced by workload.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly under what, at times, could be highly stressful situations.
  • Required to participate in the department’s physical fitness program and assessments every April & October.
  • Must communicate well with sworn and non-sworn law enforcement personnel.
  • Interacts and works well with citizens.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required and at least 18 years of age.
  • Some college preferred.
  • Must be a resident of Midland County at the time of employment.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.
  • No felony convictions, history of criminal or improper conduct, or poor driving record, which may affect the suitability for law enforcement work. If a candidate possesses military service, he or she must have an honorable discharge.
