Position Summary:

Under direction, the Police Cadet performs varied functions within the Police Department which require communicating with the public and City employees.

Essential Functions:

  • Operates the telephone switchboard
  • Operates police radio and computer systems
  • Prepares minor reports
  • Gives tours of the police facility
  • Serves subpoenas
  • Coordinates witnesses for court appearances
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Requirements:

  • A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be graduation from high school or equivalent, and enrollment in college in a course of study directed at earning a degree in a field related to law enforcement.
  • Possess a valid Class “C” California driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record; be 18 to 21 years of age at time of hire; hearing must be normal and without defect. For candidates wearing glasses, vision must be 20/70 uncorrected, correctable to 20/20; for candidates who have successfully worn soft contact lenses for at least one year, vision must be 20/200 uncorrected, correctable to 20/20; normal color, peripheral vision, and night vision (as defined by P.O.S.T. guidelines).
