Patrol Officer
Salary: $49,594 annually.
Position Summary:
As the Patrol Officer, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable performing community-oriented policing.You will be an active member of the University Police teamand will work closely with the Chief of Police to promote the safety and security of all campus community members. You will thrive in this role if you like combining yourlaw enforcementand your interpersonal skills while interacting with the student population enhancing their ESU experience. To be successful in this role, you must have previous police officer experience, connect professionally with university students to solve issues, along with remaining calm and alert in stressful situations.
Essential Functions:
- Direct and control traffic along with parking on university grounds, enforcing vehicle laws by issuing warnings, parking tickets, citations for violations of university, and commonwealth traffic regulations.
- Provides safety and Law Enforcement for extra-curricular, social, and recreational events and activities at this university. Practices safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries, and to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
- Transport by state-owned vehicles, persons to hospitals and university funds/valuables to proper locations.
Investigates suspected crimes, reports findings and arrests where Rules of Criminal Procedure require, following university arrest policy guidelines. - Responds to calls, including fire, bomb threat or any other university emergency.
- Investigates accidents involving persons or property, reporting same and pursuing appropriate course of action on university grounds.
- Cooperates and works with local, state and other police authorities, as needed. Testifies in court or legal proceedings, as necessary.
- Utilizes radio communications equipment, accomplishes routine administrative duties and performs other related work as required.
- Administrative duties include reports, paperwork, incident write-ups, etc. Participates in education and training courses, as requested.
Requirements:
- Must be 21 years or older and a citizen of the United States.
- Must have a high School Diploma or GED Equivalency. Associate or bachelor’s degree in related field, such as criminal justice, is preferred.
- Must be first aid and CPR certified or become certified within 3 months of hire.
- Must pass the University Firearms Qualification Requirements within 3 months of hire and at required intervals. Must be skilled in the use and care of offensive and defensive weapons.
- Act 120 Certified Recommended
- The ability to have & maintain access to the Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN).
- Ability to meet such qualifications regarding strength, agility, and health may be required.
- Knowledge of commonwealth laws, rules, and regulations governing motor vehicle operation; and personal conduct for employees or visitors at commonwealth facilities.
- Knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions appropriate to responsibilities assigned as a law enforcement officer.
- Able to react quickly and calmly in emergency situations and to determine proper courses of action.
- Enforce laws firmly, tactfully, and with respect for the rights of others.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, overtime and/or any shift.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Able to read, write and comprehend English; able to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required.
