Non-Certified Police Officer
Salary: $49,203.25 Annually

Position Summary:
The purpose of this position is to protect life and property and enforce federal, state, and local laws. Job duties consist of related law enforcement duties. Successful performance contributes to the detection and deterrence of crime and to the protection of life and property. FLSA status is Non-Exempt.
This is an entry-level position with educational and growth requirements for candidates that do not currently possess an APOSTC certification. Incumbents are originally assigned to Patrol. Incumbents may be assigned to the Warrant or Community/School Relations Unit after the required time in service.
Essential Functions:
- Patrols the city to detect and deter criminal activity and traffic violations.
- Patrols city hall and schools to detect and deter criminal activity.
- Responds to calls for service, including domestic disputes, assaults, burglaries, traffic accidents, lost or missing person searches, public service duties, stranded motorists, and others.
- Apprehends, arrests, and processes offenders, including fugitives.
- Conducts preliminary traffic and criminal investigations, including interviewing victims, complainants, and witnesses, gathering information and evidence, and securing crime scenes.
- Provides assistance and backup support to other officers and emergency service providers as necessary.
- Testifies in judicial proceedings as necessary.
- Serves warrants.
- Transports prisoners.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED (from an accredited institution) required AND;
- ACT WorkKeys Assessment (BAT) required (see below) OR an Associates or higher degree from an accredited SACS college/university (attach either to application).
- Reading for Information (Workplace Documents) Pass Score 4.
- Locating Information (Graphic Literacy) Pass Score 4.
- Applied Mathematics Pass Score 3.
- Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
- Must have and maintain a valid Alabama driver’s license.
- Must be certified as required by the Alabama Peace Officers’ Standards and Training Commission.
