Salary: $72,300.80 – $78,499.20 Annually.

Position Summary:

This is a mid-management position. The primary responsibilities are to directly manage and supervise the detective and patrol divisions.

Essential Functions:

  • Directs, manage and supervise detectives and patrol sergeants
  • Conduct annual performance evaluations; detectives and patrol sergeants
  • Monitor employee performance, maintain conformity with policy and procedures, and participates in disciplinary matters
  • Participate in recruitment and retention of employees
  • Create work schedules, authorize leave, vacation and overtime
  • General oversight of patrol operations
  • Incident / Case management; prioritize and assign cases based on severity and solvability factors
  • Approves reports, assist with quality control and distribution of the cases
  • Manage and control online and walk-in complaints
  • Oversee equipment and items assigned to detective division; perform inventory checks
  • Identifies department training needs; coordinates and documents training
  • Assures minimum staffing needs are met
  • Handles citizen complaint as assigned regarding individual deputies
  • Performs patrol functions as needed
  • Command and control of major investigations
  • Conduct criminal investigations in the jail
  • Conduct internal investigation as assigned by the Captain and/or Chief Deputy
  • Provides leadership to subordinate employees by providing purpose, direction, and motivation
  • Manage and supervise the Electronic Monitoring Program (EMP) and other alternative incarceration programs
  • Fosters positive attitudes among all employees
  • Provides positive working relationships between the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and all other municipal, county, state, and federal agencies as needed
  • Other duties as assigned by the Captain, Chief Deputy, or the Sheriff.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s Degree or a minimum of 60 college credits
  • Five (5) years’ experience as a certified law enforcement officer
  • Management/supervisory experience preferred
