Lieutenant
Position Summary:
To command and direct the entire investigative section and operational section of the Department of Public Safety Department at the University of Detroit Mercy. The training and educating the entire Department of Public Safety and University community through active seminars, and consistent enforcement of all City, State, Federal Laws and University Policy and Procedures. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if work is similar, related, or a logical assignment of position.
Essential Functions:
- Ensure that all personnel are properly trained in the performance of their related job, while monitoring and evaluating their performance, and take corrective action as needed. (OIC Department Training Section).
- Ensure that all shifts and events are appropriately staffed and that all personnel are briefed on situations and conditions, which require their attention.
- Respond to situations, of a high profile in nature, which necessitates the presence of a Lieutenant for immediate and crucial decisions.
- Review all reports on a daily basic and ensure that all incidents are investigated and proper reports are generated with the appropriate corrective actions.( OIC of Investigation Section).
- Monitor crime trends and prepare reports for statistical purposes and to eliminate opportunities or foreseeable risks.
- Consistent update and review of all departmental policy, procedures and practices to ensure the departmental strives to meet and achieve their goals and objections.
- Enforce all city, State, and Federal Laws and University Policies and Procedures.
Requirements:
- Education – A college degree.
- Experience – Five years to seven years (Equivalent combination of education and employment).
Preferred Requirements:
- Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job.
- Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the university for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation.
- MCOLES Certified or Certifiable
