Lead Detention Officer
Salary: 22.00-24.00 per hour
Position Summary:
This work involves the supervision and performance of duties in the booking and detention of prisoners at the Omaha Tribal Law Enforcement on a given shift. The incumbent works independently on an assigned shift and exercises independent judgment when dealing with problems or special situations.
Essential Functions:
- Assists with the corrections supervisor in administering and coordinating all administrative functions of the Detention Facility in accordance with policies and procedures. Ensures that all remaining requirements are met in a timely manner
- Prepares written reports of program activities and accomplishments upon request.
- Maintain the relationship between the O.T.P.S.C. Detention facility and other agencies providing programs and services to the jail. Initiates and maintain Memorandums of Agreement between the Jail and those entities handling of multi-problem issues.
- Meets with Management, and constituents to solicit their ideas, discuss Programs and encourage their support and confer with leaders of other governments to solve mutual problems.
- Assists with administers the Programs and services in accordance with Tribal laws, regulations, policies procedures, and guidelines. Delegates authority concerning allocations and use of resources (manpower, facilities, supplies, and materials) while maintaining internal control of Programs and activities in a manner which will best benefit the Tribe and Tribal membership
- Assists with developing and revising policies, rules, and procedures to carryout operations; organizes work into manageable units, and allocates resources-funds, staff, facilities, equipment and materials. Discusses proposed final plans with the Police Captain and Chief Tribal Officer and makes modifications as necessary for approval by the Tribal Council.
- Continually evaluates current plans and operations of each subordinate unit within the Jail to determine their efficiency and effectiveness in meeting requirements and providing services. Determines the general nature and scope of changes required for more evaluates existing plans, policies and procedures. Initiates studies and evaluates need for the finding within the broad framework outlined by the O.T.P.S.C.
- Assists with determining resource needs and allocates resources for successful accomplishments of objectives. Plans future development of expansion of Detention facilities services and procures additional funding by accessing a variety of sources.
Requirements:
- Must pass background check, physical and pre-employment drug screen.
- Possess Federal Law Enforcement Training Center OR State of Nebraska Certification.
- Possess licenses and ability to utilize various specialized weapons for police work.
- Possess valid Nebraska Driver’s license and be insurable by Tribal insurance
- Possess or pass test for Valid Standard First Aid Certification.
- Required to attend and complete Jail Management Training within one (1) year of hire.
- High school diploma or GED
- A.A. Degree preferred
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training
