Position Summary:

Under supervision of the Patrol Division Lieutenant, investigate crimes, disorderly and petty disorderly offenses, Borough of Eatontown Ordinance violations, traffic accidents, non-criminal complaints, dog or animal complaints, lost or found items and all other general complaints and/or incidents.

Essential Functions:

  • Report road conditions or hazardous conditions, traffic lights or street lights out, dead or sick animals, animals struck by motor vehicles, damaged road signs and lost or found items.
  • Enforce the law, including State Criminal Code, Title 2C, Borough Ordinances, State Traffic Laws, Title 39.
  • Assist the public with direction or information, disabled motorists, other police agencies and direction of traffic.
  • Complete patrol of assigned zone.
  • Answer all assigned calls.
  • Escort stranded motorists, funeral or bank as required.
  • Operate school crossing guard posts, if assigned.
  • Property checks on vacant houses and businesses.
  • Operate Radar.
  • Inspect assigned police vehicles and equipment daily.
  • Cover special events, if assigned.
  • Be proficient in the use of all emergency equipment.
  • Fulfill the job responsibilities of the Communication Center, when assigned.
  • All other duties as required by Division assignment. (Patrol/Detective/Services)
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be over 18 and less than 35 years of age at the time of appointment.
  • Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license at the time of appointment.
  • Must be a New Jersey resident at the time of appointment.
  • Must have a Bachelor’s degree signifying completion of the undergraduate curriculum and graduation from an accredited college or university or have been honorably discharged from one of the six service branches of the United States Armed Forces.
  • Certification by the New Jersey Police Training Commission in the Basic Course or Class II Police Officer preferred but not required.
  • Full-time Patrol Officers work rotating shifts using the Pittman schedule.
  • The successful candidate must pass a background check, pre-employment physical and a drug test.
