Entrant Police Officer
Salary: $52,430.00 Annually
Position Summary:
The Gladstone Police Department Entrant Officer is a non-sworn, pre-academy position designed for motivated individuals at least 19 years of age who are interested in pursuing a career in law enforcement. Entrant Officers will gain valuable experience working alongside sworn personnel while preparing to attend the police academy upon reaching the minimum age of 21. This is not a permanent position and candidates will be expected to attend the first available academy upon reaching age 21. Failure to do so will result in separation with the department. Entrant Officers age 21 or older at the time of hire will attend the first available police academy.
Essential Functions:
- Jail Operations:
- Monitor and assist with the care and custody of inmates.
- Conduct inmate searches, booking procedures, and documentation.
- Ensure the safety and security of the jail facility.
- Public Interaction:
- Take and document walk-in reports from the public regarding non-emergency incidents.
- Provide information and assistance to community members at the front desk or over the phone.
- Administrative Support:
- Assist officers and detectives with case documentation and file organization.
- Enter data and reports into police databases accurately and efficiently.
- Departmental Assistance:
- Support sworn personnel with non-enforcement tasks.
- Participate in community outreach and engagement events as needed.
- Maintain equipment, vehicles, and workspaces in a state of readiness.
Requirements:
- Education: High school diploma or GED required.
- Background: Must pass a thorough background check, including fingerprinting and a criminal history review.
- Driver’s License: Possess a valid MO driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
- Interest in Law Enforcement: Strong desire to attend a certified police academy at age 21 and pursue a sworn officer position.
