Starting at $28.74 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience, plus an additional 5% for a Bachelor’s Degree and/or 2.5% for intermediate Spanish ability.

The Springfield Municipal Jail began accepting inmates on January 29, 2010. The 100 bed facility is the largest municipal jail in the State of Oregon. Springfield Detention Officer (Female) Minimum Requirements:

  • 21 years of age by time of appointment
  • High school diploma or GED certificate from an accredited school
  • Valid Oregon Driver’s License by time of appointment
  • United States citizen, or obtain citizenship within one year of appointment
  • No felony convictions
  • Ability to pass a background investigation
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug screen
  • Obtain DPSST Certification as a Corrections Officer or successful completion of the State of Oregon DPSST Corrections Officer Certification within twelve (12) months from the date of appointment.
  • Ability to meet physical, medical and psychological requirements for the position (see Oregon Administrative Rule 259-008-0010 Minimum Standards for Employment as a Law Enforcement Officer: www.oregon.gov/DPSST)
  • Refrain from tobacco products while on duty
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and assignments, report for duty at any time an emergency arises, and work overtime with little or no notice
  • Meet the gender requirements as outlined in PREA

This recruitment will require written and physical testing. Please reserve the dates listed below, in the event you are invited to test. All testing and selection processes will be done in accordance with the Oregon Veteran’s Preference in Public Employment Law.

Testing:
Written testing and physical testing is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 18, 2024.

  • Applicants invited to test will be contacted via email with additional testing details.
  • You will be required to show picture identification at the time of the written test.
  • All candidates must be present to complete written and physical testing. NO PREVIOUS ORPAT SCORES WILL BE ACCEPTED.

*There is currently no study guide provided by the test creator for the Detention Officer written test.

The physical test will consist of the Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT):

Oral Boards:
Oral Boards (Interviews) will be held for applicants who successfully pass written and physical testing. Tentatively, Oral boards will be scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2024 (the day after testing)

The information you provide in the application ‘Work Experience’ and ‘Job Duties’ will be used to determine if you will proceed to the next phase in the selection process. Information related to education and experience must be verifiable on your application to be given credit.
