Detention Officer
Salary: $25.88/hour.
Position Summary:
The staff at the Sheriff’s Office are dedicated to serving their community with the highest degree of professionalism and to serving the training needs of our law enforcement partners. We have been providing training to other law enforcement agencies since 2015 to help with the professional development of our law enforcement partners.
As part of its commitment to providing high quality training to other law enforcement agencies, we took over operations of the local law enforcement training academy in 2024. During the same year we received funding to develop a new Regional Training Center to further support the training mission for area law enforcement. That new facility is now open!
The Sheriff’s Office is committed to supporting its staff. As part of that commitment, we are developing a childcare center for our employees and anticipate opening in 2026. The childcare center will operate 18 hours a day to ensure support for staff that work overnight hours.
Essential Functions:
- Interacts face-to-face with detainees
- Ensures the safety of staff, detainees, and the public
- Monitors and documents detainee activities
- Oversees the intake and release processes
- Manages visitations
- Logs and prepares detainee records
- Transports detainees as needed
- Enforces facility regulations
- Assists in maintaining facility security
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
- No felony convictions.
- Must pass a medical examination, psychological assessment, a pre-employment drug screen, and an FBI fingerprint background check.
