Detention Officer
Salary: $17.00 to $19.12
Essential Functions:
- Observes and monitors Detention Center inmates and detects and deters improper or unacceptable behavior. Controls and directs inmates while out of cell areas during transfers, work assignments, meals, recreation, etc.
- Books inmates into processing center and performs searches of individuals and Detention Center cells to locate weapons or contraband.
- Prepare logs, records and reports of Detention Center activities.
- Transports inmates to jail/Department of Corrections facilities, Court, hospital, etc.
- May perform duties of a Public Safety Aide including investigating minor traffic collisions, assisting motorists, directing traffic, assisting officers with accident reports, and proactive parking enforcement when not performing detention facility duties; priority will be detention/transport duties.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience and/or related training; OR a. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.
- CPR certified.
- Must successfully pass detention, Taser, and mace certifications.
- Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license and be insurable by City’s auto insurance provider.
- Considerable knowledge of the city geography including street system and routes; and uniform traffic codes desirable.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
