Detention Officer

Position Summary:
The Detention Officer is responsible for the processing of arrested persons in and out of the Detention Center and for ensuring the safety of the facility and the individuals processed through the facility.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for searching every individual brought into the facility by CCPD, inventorying their property, and performing the initial medical screening of arrested persons
- Review CCPD arrest reports for completeness and accuracy as well as entering the arrest information and Arrested Persons information in the computer system (booking)
- Control and/or restrain violent and combative Arrested person to ensure they do not hurt themselves, staff, or other Arrested Persons
- Responsible for fingerprinting all Arrested Persons brought into the facility as well as entering the fingerprints in the live scan system
- Facilitate the Arrest Person going before the magistrate Judge to be magistrated and confirm that all paperwork and photographs have been completed and taken
- Responsible for transporting Arrested Persons to the Nueces County jail.
- Responsible for the release of Arrested Persons that will not be transported to the Nueces County jail
- Responsible for checking the security of the facility four (4) times per hour and monitoring the welfare of each Arrested Person four (4) times per hour
- May be asked to perform other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED
- Six (6) months of experience
- A valid driver’s license is required; successful out-of-state candidates must be able to obtain a valid Texas driver’s license within 90 days of hire
- CPR and First Aid Certification
