Position Summary:

Under the supervision of a Detention Supervisor, provides a safe and secure environment for juveniles; monitors and supervises juvenile activities and movement; provides health and hygiene needs, daily recreation, and guidance; prepares written reports daily; processes information from juveniles being admitted and/or released, completes various reports and logs, communicated in person or by telephone with various people (e.g. detention staff, court staff, parents, law enforcement, attorneys, etc.), and notifies schools when juveniles are retained in the facility. Monitors the keys, security system, radio communications, Juvenile Division vehicles, and fire alarms.

Essential Functions:

  1. Responsible for the safety and security of the hall, prevention of contraband being introduced into the hall, and the random security shakedown of the hall.
  2. Provides supervision of juveniles assigned to the hall.
  3. Provides for the health and hygiene needs of the juveniles.
  4. Adheres to established program and activity schedules.
  5. Facilitates educational, recreational, and life skill experiences and opportunities for detained juveniles.
  6. Provides individual and group experiences designed to promote juvenile learning and acceptance of responsibility for their actions.
  7. Administers discipline and behavior control techniques i.e. physical intervention when deemed necessary.
  8. Completes any required reports (e.g. daily log, observation log, incident report, use of force report, etc.).
  9. Performs hall and building security checks.
  10. Under supervision, performs intake responsibilities when needed.
  11. Performs other duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Good physical condition.
  • Possess a valid State of Ohio driver’s license.
  • Proof of insurance; completion of high school diploma or equivalent, general understanding of computers, and effective communication and observation skills prior training, experience, and/or a college degree preferred.
