Position Summary:

This uniformed deputy sheriff is assigned to the Court Security Unit of the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO). This position is responsible for providing security to the overall County Courthouse including its visitors, County personnel, State personnel, and prisoners in FCSO custody. Supervision is received from the Court Security Unit Sergeant.

Essential Functions:

  • Work Court Security posts as assigned
  • Perform full service law enforcement and civil process duties; enforce laws related to Court operations and Courthouse security and functions
  • Provide information and assistance to individuals in the Courthouse and courtrooms; provide courtroom security and order; conduct court room searches, cell checks, and head counts
  • Arrest and cite individuals who commit offenses
  • Maintain records of daily activities; report unusual occurrences and incidents
  • Conduct arrest and interview procedures
  • Conduct prisoner searches; provide supervision and control of prisoners in custody; coordinate transportation, delivery, and transfer of prisoner custody; process new prisoners received from the court
  • Provide training of newly assigned deputies
  • Ensure proper staffing of posts are maintained
  • Respond to and assist security personnel as problems arise
  • Conduct prisoner movement between courtrooms, other court locations, holding cells and transportation services
  • Provide security and services to judges and courts personnel as required
  • Participate in special operations and assists with staffing needs in other divisions as assigned
  • Process and serve paperwork to include protective orders, warrants, evictions, etc. as required
  • Supervise court security personnel when assigned as courts supervisor
  • Perform related duties as required

Requirements:

  • Minimum age 21 years
  • U.S.A. citizenship
  • High school graduation or the equivalent
  • Current Law Enforcement certification by the Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission (MPCTC) or a comparable certification from a State outside of Maryland
  • Possession of a valid automobile operator’s license
