Salary: $25.13 per hour

Essential Functions:

  • Investigates, compiles, and analyzes information obtained through the investigative process in support of CIU operations; does related work as required. Collect, compile, and analyze information for statistical reports.
  • Participates in the investigation of violations of State and Local Laws as well as potential violations of the Prison Rape and Elimination Act that occur in the Virginia Beach Jail or when the victims are appointees of the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office when such cases are not investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Department. This position is a part-time sworn position; with the same authority as full time deputy sheriffs.
  • The part time deputy performs investigations as directed by the Sheriff or his designee.
  • Investigators assist in the investigation of violations of State Law Local Ordinances and PREA that occur in the Virginia Beach Correctional Center when such cases are not investigated by the Virginia Beach Police Department.
  • During investigations he/she will be responsible for the collection of evidence for possible criminal or administrative prosecution.
  • Conduct internal administrative investigations as directed by the Sheriff or his designee.
  • Conduct specialized investigations into gang, predatory and other illicit activity by inmates that takes place within the confines of the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
  • Conducts research in order to gather information and data needed to correctly analyze trends, potential behavior problems, gang activity, etc.; performs statistical analysis to develop viable recommendations and ensure the ongoing effectiveness of assignments as related to divisional or departmental mission.

Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent,
  • At least 21 years of age at the time of appointment or within 6 months of the 21st birthday on the date of application (graduation from Basic Academy),
  • Possession of a valid appropriate drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia or the State of North Carolina,
  • Be a U.S. citizen at the time of application,
  • Successfully completion of the selection process, including testing required, full background investigation, polygraph, medical and psychological exams, must be classified as fit for employment by Occupational Health Office, must refrain from using tobacco products on the job.
