FUNCTION:
Maintains safety and well-being of the public. Patrols all county highways and roads enforcing the applicable
laws and performs general police duty in the county in connection with thefts, vandalisms and family disputes.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Apprehends, arrests and tickets motorists who have broken traffic laws.
2. Serves process papers and warrants.
3. Responds to calls for assistance in family disputes, prevents physical harm and restores peace.
4. Renders first aid to accident victims, gathers evidence, prepares reports and restores, as quickly as possible, the traffic handling ability of the roads involved.
5. Testifies in court on criminal and civil matters.
6. Operates alcohol detecting equipment.
7. Responds to burglar alarm alerts, checking buildings and equipment.
8. Investigates thefts and vandalism and prepares reports concerning them.
9. Investigates citizen complaints including those dealing with suspected criminal activity, stray animals, etc.
10. Assists motorists in trouble.

Education, Training and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 60 college credits. Wisconsin Certification in law enforcement or be certifiable in the State of Wisconsin.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Maintain State required annual in-service training. Qualify on shooting range annually.
  • One to three years in police work or job requiring continuous exposure to public.
  • Hold and maintain a valid Wisconsin driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of first aid, universal precautions.
