Patrol position performs general duty police work for the apprehension of criminals, prevention of crimes, protection of life and property, and general enforcement of all laws and ordinances on an assigned shift under general supervision. Responsible for routine patrol, crash investigation, crowd control, and preliminary investigation of all complaints.

This application is to an Eligibility List from which Patrol Deputies are hired.

Salary: $24.97 – $27.95 Hourly


• Discovers and prevents the commission of crimes, enforces county and park ordinances, and enforces all state and motor vehicle laws for designated areas of the county
• Conducts preliminary investigations, gathers evidence, obtains witness statements, makes arrests, and escorts prisoners from the scenes of crimes
• Detains anyone wanted through the serving of warrants
• Investigates automobile accidents, assists local fire departments, and answers all calls and complaints with tact, diplomacy, and the amount of force necessary
• Makes dispositions of all complaints or inquiries or directs people to the proper organizations to handle the complaints
• Prepares evidence for issuance of complaints; serves criminal process, including warrants and subpoenas
• Testifies in court
• Acts in a relief capacity, working in other areas of the department as assigned
• Performs public relations duties as required or assigned
• Carries out any lawful order or duty as prescribed by the Sheriff or supervisor



• Citizen of the United States
• Documentary evidence of graduation from an accredited high school or successful completion of the General Educational Development Test
• Associate degree or a minimum of 60 college credits
• No federal felony or of any offense which if committed in Wisconsin could be punished as a felony unless the applicant has been granted an absolute and unconditional pardon
• Eighteen (18) years of age or older upon appointment

• Appointment will be conditional upon successful completion of the following:
o Pre-employment physical exam
o Drug-screening test
o Psychological exam
o Background investigation
• Applicant must be certified or certifiable by the State Law Enforcement Standards Board
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
• Successful completion of the entry-level law enforcement examination
