Deputy Sheriff and Detention Officer
DETENTION OFFICER
Detention starting pay is $57,657.60 – hourly rate $26.40. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile.
General Definition of Work:
Performs responsible protective service work supervising inmates and ensuring the care and security of inmates at the County Sheriff Detention Center. Work is performed under the supervision of a Sergeant.
A Cabarrus County Detention Officer Must:
- Be at least 20 years old
- Be a citizen of the US
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Training and standards requires equivalent diploma be at least partial classroom.
- Be in good physical condition
- Possess or be able to possess a NC driver’s license
- Not have a conviction of a felony or serious misdemeanor
- Meet applicable standards and Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office requirements. Must qualify for State Law Enforcement Certification. This certification is in accordance with the NC Sheriff’s Training and Standards Commission.
- Must live and be able to respond within one hour of the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office
- Be of good moral character

Education and Experience:
Requires graduation from high school or GED.
The deputy position can be assigned to work 8 hour or 12-hour shifts depending on the vacancy and location of the position. This posting will be used to fill both 8 hour and 12-hour shifts.
Deputy 12 hour starting pay is $60,540.48- hourly rate $27.72. Initial placement for new employees is customarily at entry level through 35% percentile.

Performs intermediate protective service work in the Sheriff’s Department involving an element of personal danger. Work is performed under regular supervision.
A Cabarrus County Deputy Sheriff Must:
- Be at least 20 years old.

- Have a high school diploma or equivalent. Training and standards requires equivalent diploma be at least partial classroom.
- Possess or be able to possess a NC driver’s license.
