Salary: $58,000.00 – $62,000.00 Annually

Position Summary:

Marion County Deputies may be assigned to various divisions within the MCSO, duties include securing city/county facilities including the Adult Detention Center, City-County Building, Sheriff’s Headquarters, and Marion County Superior Courts; serving of criminal warrants that are issued by the Marion County Criminal Courts and any warrants that are verified through other police agency or court in or out of state; service of civil court papers, protective orders, evictions and replevins; policing of sex offenders within Marion County.

Deputies perform law enforcement functions as required in and around the facilities, provide information and assistance to City-County employees and visitors, and other duties as directed by the Sheriff. Advancement opportunities available upon completion of one year of employment.

Essential Functions:

  • Custody and care of arrestees.
  • Maintain security within City/County facilities.
  • Communicate with arrestees, attorneys, personnel of other government agencies, and the public.
  • Respond to emergency situations within the facility
  • Transport of inmates/arrestees to and from court room
  • Perform searches of arrested subjects
  • Account for inmate/arrestee property
  • Serves protective orders and assists other units in serving orders to vacate, write of assistance and arrests on wanted persons.
  • Attend regular in-service training session
  • Serves individuals with respective warrant (Probable Cause, Probation, Failure to Appear, and Parole).
  • May be required to transport arrested subject to the ADC for booking procedures.
  • Receives, gathers, organizes, and compiles narrative/statistical data concerning work unit operations, reviews information to assure data accuracy/completeness.
  • Responds to weather and disaster call-outs and crime prevention.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by superiors.

Requirements:

  • Must be a resident citizen of the United States
  • Must be at least 21 years old
  • Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency (HSE) diploma
  • No battery or felony conviction
  • Must be able to work any shift or duty schedule
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive written exam, physical agility assessment, and oral interview
  • Must submit to a character and background investigation but not limited to: Credit Rating, Previous Employment, Criminal Record, and Driving Record
  • Be in sound mental and physical health verified by a physician designated by the Agency. There is no recourse to rejection by the Agency’s physician.
