Salary: $24.50 Hourly.

Position Summary:

This temporary position provides law enforcement and related public services to the County.

This position is primarily assigned to the Judicial Center but may be assigned to other specialized units within the Sheriff’s Office.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintaining a high visibility within the Judicial Center, performing court security in all court environments, communicating with the public, writing reports, responding to calls for service, and serving as an official of the Court system.
  • The hours will be based on the needs of the department, but the average work week is 30-35 hours.
  • There is a one-year probationary period and all employees serve at the pleasure of the Sheriff.

Requirements:

  • A qualified applicant must be a citizen of the United States over 21 years of age;
  • Be a retired law enforcement officer (Class 1 or 3);
  • Have a high school diploma (state issued) or GED;
  • Possess a current valid SC driver’s license or be able to obtain one prior to hire;
  • Have no criminal convictions, and, if certification is not current, be able to attend and pass the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy;
  • Applicants meeting these minimum requirements must submit to, and successfully complete, all phases of the hiring process to be considered for employment;
  • The process includes, but is not limited to the following: the Nelson-Denny Reading Test, a physical abilities test, a two-phase background investigation, a credit check, a psychological examination/evaluation, a polygraph examination, an oral interview, and upon an offer of employment, a pre-employment physical examination.
