Deputy- Corrections
Position Summary:
Sworn position maintains order, discipline, custody and control of the inmate population in accordance to the Cecil County Correctional Facility’s rules and regulations. Complies with all established rules and regulations; Direct supervision provided by Deputy Director, Detention Center.
Essential Functions:
- Supervises daily operations and activities of inmates at the correctional facility from assigned post to
maintain security, order and discipline; - Monitors conformance to facility rules and regulations;
- Safeguards inmates from violence and from harming themselves or others;
- Documents inmates’ activities and monitor movement through facility;
- Receives, inventories and tracks personal property of all inmates;
- Receives, inventories and distributes cleaning supplies and general toiletries;
- Inspects the condition of dormitories and housing units for security and cleanliness;
- Oversees work assignments of inmates and escort them to/from assignment;
- Conducts routine and special searches of facility, visitors and inmates for contraband;
- Prepares paperwork for booking new inmates and process the court authorized release of inmates;
- Inspects security and safety devices;
- Reports to work as scheduled or directed to include overtime without advance notice;
- Works shift work
- Conducts inmate counts;
- Supervises inmate visitation process to include registering visitors, performing security checks, and monitoring visits;
- Prepares inmate disciplinary reports;
- Performs general cleaning details within security areas.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.;
- No experience required
- Must be 18 yrs old at time of appointment
- Valid Class C driver’s license with no more than 5 violation points: and
- Successful completion of the Correctional Officer Training Course as required by the Maryland Police and
Correctional Training Commission within one (1) year of appointment; and - Weapons certification within one (1) year of appointment; and
- CPR/ First Aid certification, within one (1) year of appointment; and
- Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission certification preferred;
