Position Summary:

The Dougherty County Sheriff’s Office/Jail Division is hiring on a continuous basis for a Deputy. The purpose of this position is to enforce local, state, and federal laws and to protect the citizens of Dougherty County.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs general law enforcement duties to assigned area such as preparing and serving civil and criminal papers, transporting inmates, planning and directing investigations and interrogations, patrolling assigned area, and serving as bailiff.
  • Prepare, serve, and logs civil papers and criminal court papers such as warrants, subpoenas, commitment papers; approves bail bonds, cash bonds and property bonds.
  • Transports inmates and mental health patients to appointed facility; transports victims of domestic violence to safety; prepares extradition of out-of-state inmates.
  • Plans and directs investigations of criminal offenses including gathering evidence, conducting interviews of victims and witnesses, interrogating suspects and secures crime scenes.
  • Patrols assigned area for illegal activity; answers dispatched calls and assists citizens in distress; patrols to scan for vehicle accidents, violations of traffic laws, drivers under the influence of drugs or alcohol; redirects and controls traffic flow when necessary.
  • Works in office answering telephones, dispatching information; conducting computer search of information; writing incident and accident reports.
  • Operates patrol car and performs preventative maintenance on vehicle, as appropriate.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of law enforcement experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • For this law enforcement position, applicants, must be:
  • At least 21 years of age
  • United States citizen
  • High School graduate or equivalent
  • Certified under the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Act
  • Able to clear background investigation
  • Georgia POST Peace Officer Certification.
  • May require Fire Arms Certification.
  • May require Taser Certification
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.
