Court Security Officer
Salary: $41,680.32 – $47,932.37 Annually
Position Summary:
This position typically provides performance of general police work in the protection of the courts; ensures the safety of all individuals within the courts; and deals courteously and effectively with fellow employees and citizens.
Essential Functions:
- Operates the required Security Monitoring System at the entrance to the courthouse facility screening all individuals.
- Screens for conduct and behavior of each individual seeking to gain entrance to the courthouse.
- Searches individuals as required when the Monitoring System indicates search is necessary, to include searching individual persons and or property for any and all illegal weapons or contraband.
- Employs weapons or force to ensure safety regulations are adhered to when suspicious actions or persons indicate dangerous circumstances exist.
- Observes conduct and behavior of inmates to prevent disturbances and escapes.
- Assists the general public entering through the security post giving directions while ensuring no safety problems exist.
- Assists all jurors in the Jury Panel Room to ensure proper procedures are maintained.
- Escorts judges to and from vehicles.
- Reads reports and releases a bulletin of significant crimes.
- Maintains a database of crimes and offenders.
- Submits fingerprints to the Automated Fingerprint Identification System to aid in identifying offenders.
- Communicates and consults with other analysts in the area to gain information about their crimes.
- Uses programs and databases to research offenders.
- Collects statistics from all divisions in our agency and pull statistics for each patrol officer.
- Operate and maintain county vehicle and two-way radios
- Protect individuals and the public by ensuring the enforcement of all local and state laws
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent;
- One (1) year of related experience;
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for South Carolina with safe driving record;
- Must complete the S.C. Criminal Justice Academy within one year for LE 1;
- Departmental testing will be administered during interview;
- Initial testing will consist of extensive background check, Nelson Denny and a polygraph test;=
- Upon successful completion of those tests, selected candidates will then proceed to the physical agility testing with an interview to follow;
- Post offer drug testing, psychological exam, pre-placement physical and a functional evaluation capacity test will be required;
- This is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
