Corrections Deputy
Salary: $33.06 – $44.42 Hourly
Position Summary:
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is looking to add a Corrections Deputy to their team to assist in maintaining safety and security of the correctional facility, the county courthouse and their occupants. This person will also conform to all policies and procedures of the Sheriff’s Office, Jail, Oregon Jail Standards and Oregon Revised Statutes.
Essential Functions:
- Conduct initial custody assessment for acceptance into the facility which includes assessing medical condition, mental health status and intoxication level.
- Perform a cursory search of accepted inmates to detect illicit drugs and dangerous items including weapons and contraband.
- Perform an inventory of and accept responsibility for inmate property and accounting of their money in accordance with Oregon Revised Statute.
- Obtain thorough and accurate inmate commitment forms from the arresting officer, such as probable cause affidavits, parole/probation detainers, warrants, fugitive complaints, citations, and intake sheets.
- Classify and house inmates according to degree of severity of crime, past/current behavior, vulnerability, predatory level, medical/ mental health needs, gender, age, gang affiliation and current inmate population. Review and adjust classification/housing assignments of inmates.
- Booking process to include photograph, fingerprints, additional medical and mental health screening, biographical questionnaire, and entry of criminal charges.
- Evaluate and perform unclothed body search of individuals, detects, and identify scars, marks, tattoos and medical conditions.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma / GED
- Specifics: Two years college level education in law enforcement or related field preferred; at least 21 years of age and reside within two hours of the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
- Specifics: Must meet minimum DPSST requirements. If non-certified in Oregon, must be able to complete the 6-week academy at DPSST. Must achieve and maintain CPR/first aid certification and become LEDS/NCIC certified.
- Oregon Driver’s License required
- Specifics: Job requires frequent use of county vehicles. Must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license with an insurable driving record, or the ability to obtain within 30 days of date of hire.
- Must be free of conviction of a crime designated under the law where the conviction occurred as being punishable as a felony or as a crime for which a maximum term of imprisonment of more than one (1) year may be imposed; or of violating any law involving the unlawful use, possession, delivery, or manufacture of a controlled substance, narcotic, or dangerous drug. Dishonorable or undesirable discharge from the military is cause for disqualification. Must be able to pass a law enforcement background check. A psychological assessment will also be administered.
