Salary: $36.60 – $44.11.

Position Summary:

Directly supervise/mentor/coach/discipline staff. Ensure occupants are processed properly and ensure the safety, health, and well-being of occupants. Responsible for the accuracy of jail records, compliance with Federal/State standards and MCSO and Milwaukee County policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervisory Duties – Monitor staff activities to ensure compliance with all policies and procedures. Mentor and train officers to achieve performance goals. Evaluate staff performance, attendance, and communication skills. Follow up on corrective actions. Provide positive feedback and develop staff skills.
  • Facility Inspections – Ensure all housing units are cleaned and well managed and that officers are providing a safe secure environment. Check for and report on completion of all maintenance and building issues.
  • Occupant Interaction – Assist Correctional Officers with occupant safety and housing unit issues. Ensure that occupants are adhering to the rules. Conduct discipline hearings, answer occupant inquiries and grievances. Report pre-investigations, document, and follow up on PREA incidents.
  • Public Service – Respond to all inquiries from the public, law enforcement, court officials, legal representatives, and outside agencies.
  • Emergencies and Disturbances Resolution – Respond to and initiate command of emergencies and disturbances following MCSO policy.
  • Scheduling & timesheet review/approval – Verify, review, and/or modify schedules to fit the needs of the agency. Review and approve staff timesheets.
  • Intake/Release of Occupants – Supervise Intake and address issues as needed. Review and approve paperwork for release of occupants.
  • Reports and administrative duties assigned – Approve staff reports, enter data, create daily briefs, statistical reports and graphs. Complete quarterly reports, research projects, other duties as assigned.
  • Training/Education and Staff Development – Utilize training provided via internet, seminars, self-improvement courses, educational assignments, etc. for growth, development, and enhancement of leadership skills.
  • Additional Supervision – In the absence of a Shift Commander, assume those duties when necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • LESB Jailer Certification required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required at time of appointment and must be maintained during employment.
  • At least one (1) year experience as a Correctional Officer required.
  • At least 6 months experience in a Supervisory role in a Correctional setting required.
  • Previous experience with Tasers, OC spray and communication radios required.
  • Current Milwaukee County employees will not be eligible for selection if currently serving a probationary period.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Taser certification required.
  • Routine shift hours with the ability to work irregular and unpredictable or particularly long hours. (i.e., covering double shifts).
