Correctional Officer I
Salary: $24.25 per hour
Position Summary:
The Grand Forks County Correctional Center is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as a Correctional Officer. This position is responsible for maintaining the safety, security, and welfare of inmates and staff in a correctional facility. No prior experience is necessary — we provide all required training. This is a great opportunity for individuals interested in beginning a career in corrections or law enforcement.
Essential Functions:
- Monitor inmate behavior to prevent disturbances, assaults, and escapes.
- Conduct regular security checks and headcounts.
- Supervise inmate activities and enforce facility rules.
- Respond to emergencies and maintain order in the facility.
- Escort inmates to and from cells, recreation, medical, and court appointments.
- Complete reports and maintain detailed logs of daily activities.
- Perform searches of individuals and areas for contraband.
- Participate in training and ongoing professional development.
Requirements:
- High school graduate or GED and at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including a medical and drug/alcohol screening.
- Knowledge of dealing with people, multi-tasking, legalities of restricted environment, ability to successful pass licensing for Correctional Officer Certificate, and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must have availability to work rotating shifts including days, nights, and weekends.
