Salary: $69,992.00 – $85,072.00 Annually

Position Summary:
Senior Juvenile Correctional Officers act in a lead capacity over lower-level Juvenile Correctional Officers, perform specialized assignments as determined by department management, and are responsible for maintaining institutional security; youth and staff safety; and supervising adult or youth offenders on-site or in the community. Other duties include performing control room activities and functions; transporting youths; and providing other services and support to institutional programs.
Requirements:

  • Be a high school graduate, pass the General Education Development Test or other high school equivalency test approved by the State Department of Education that indicates high school graduation level, or pass the California High School Proficiency Examination. AND;
  • Complete at least sixty (60) semester units of coursework that is acceptable within the United States’ accredited college or university system.
  • Two (2) years of full-time, paid work experience as a Juvenile Correctional Officer in a Fresno County Juvenile Institution, or equivalent experience in a juvenile or adult commitment/detention facility, correctional facility, military, or law enforcement experience.
  • Possession of a valid Class “C” driver’s license, or equivalent. Incumbents may be required to obtain a Class “B” driver’s license, or equivalent.
  • Possession a valid First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certificate is required prior to appointment.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Under California Penal Code Section 830.5, the Senior Juvenile Correctional Officer classification is defined as a Peace Officer. Therefore, candidates must be able to meet all pre-employment as well as ongoing peace officer status requirements pursuant to Federal, State, and local legislation.
