Position Summary:

The Community Service Officer is a civilian, non-sworn position of the Menasha Police Department geared towards aspiring Police Officers enrolled in a Criminal Justice or other college program. Employees are responsible for traffic direction, assisting motorists, animal complaints, enforcement of minor ordinance violations, parking patrol, park surveillance, funeral escorts and assisting department officers and police support staff. As a representative of the City of Menasha, the Community Service Officer is governed by high moral and legal standards. The philosophy requires dedication to the public service for the common good of all citizens.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must have a valid Wisconsin driver’s license or be able to obtain one and maintain it during the time of hire.
  • Must not have any felony convictions or disqualifying criminal history.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Must be of sound moral character.
  • Must be a high school graduate.
  • Must not have been found guilty of any ordinance violation within the last year.
  • Must provide the City of Menasha with medical physical information including appropriate drug screen.
  • Must be enrolled in a post-high school education program with a course load of at least nine (9) credits with an emphasis given to those enrolled in police science or a law enforcement program.
  • Must successfully complete all department training sessions.
  • An ability to operate and use the tools and equipment utilized by the department for the position.
  • Ability to learn the applicable laws and ordinances, and department rules and regulations.
  • Ability to perform work requiring good physical condition.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • An ability to establish or maintain effective working relationship with peers and supervisors.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to learn the geography of the city.
