Communications Operator (911 Dispatcher)
Salary: $46,648.00 annually.
Position Summary:
The City of Greenville is now accepting applications for the position of Communications Operator (911 Dispatcher). A communications officer is a first responder per House Bill N. 1090. This is a full-time position and responsibilities and duties: Take telephone calls and radio dispatches police officers, firefighters, animal control, and after-hours utility service workers. Operates multi-channel radio, enhanced 911 computer, personal computer, TDD, recording system, weather station, and teletype system. Greets walk-in customers, takes fines, monitors jail, receives reports, files, etc.
Essential Functions:
- Directing the activities of field personnel.
- Providing patrol officers and firemen with information upon which they may act.
- Receiving requests for police assistance from citizens by telephone or in-person.
- Dispatching officers to respond to calls for service.
- Logging and maintaining records of officers’ activities.
- Monitoring incoming messages and sending messages via the NLETS / TLETS Network.
- Accessing requested information for Patrol via the departmental computer system.
- Providing general information to the public on request.
- Communicating with the police, fire, and ambulance services.
- Communicating with other City departments.
Requirements:
- Graduate of high school or GED.
- Ability to speak clearly and general knowledge of the Texas Penal Code and Criminal Justice System.
- Bilingual ability is a plus. We provide hands-on training.
