Position Summary:

Becoming a Communications Officer is a rewarding and challenging career. Communications Officers must be able to multi-task, react quickly, efficiently and calmly in emergency and routine situations. Communications Officers answer, prioritize and dispatch emergency and routine calls for law enforcement, fire, and medical services, operate a two-way radio, utilize a computer aided dispatch system, among many other duties. Communications Officers MUST be able to work shift work, twelve hour shifts to include working nights, holidays and weekends. MUST be able to work during civil unrest and natural disasters to include, but not limited to: hurricanes, tornados, etc…

Requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Possess a valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Possess a High School Diploma or GED
  • Must not meet any of the disqualifiers as indicated on the employment application
  • If hired, must become State Certified within 12 months of being hired and maintain certification
  • If hired, must take a Basic FCIC class (offered during training), pass the basic exam and maintain certification
  • All applicants will be required to take and pass a computerized skills test to check for eligibility
