Communications Officer
Salary: $38,991.00 – 60,847.00
Position Summary:
Performs technical work receiving, classifying, processing, dispatching and managing emergency service calls; receiving, recording and forwarding non-emergency service calls and preparing and maintaining computerized and other records and files.
Essential Functions:
- Regular and predictable attendance;
- Receives law enforcement, medical, fire/rescue and related service requests and calls;
- Operates radios, telephone, alarm systems, recording devices and computer terminals;
- Dispatches emergency equipment and personnel where and when needed; informs personnel of secondary information pertaining to patient or incidents;
- Provides emergency medical instructions to callers pending arrival of response personnel;
- Receives and forwards service requests, complaints and other calls;
- Receives and transmits messages by radio and tracks all apparatus/units moving through CAD;
- Utilizes computer databases for mapping, data collection and computer aided dispatch (CAD);
- Prepares and maintains public safety computer records.
- Types and files reports and records;
- Works varying shifts and flexible schedules; works additional shifts for personnel coverage.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED and minimal experience in general clerical work including basic computer knowledge.
- Some knowledge of the principles of the operation of radios, telephone and related equipment, required.
- Knowledge of the street system and geography of the City and the adjacent areas, preferred.
- VCIN/NCIC Operator Certification
- DCJS Basic Communicator Certification
- First Aid/CPR/AED Certification
