Chief Safety and Security Officer
Salary: $174,284 – $279,959
Position Summary:
Leads and manages the programs and processes of the Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) programs and services that provide physical, technical, cyber, and operational safety and security; provides strategic leadership and management oversight to ensure safety and security of students, staff, facilities, information systems, and the community; leads systemwide initiatives including strategic planning; works closely with the Leadership Team to ensure that initiative timelines are developed, executed, and maintained; serves as a liaison for various FCPS constituencies.
Requirements:
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master’s degree in criminal justice, emergency management, public safety, business or public administration, or a related field.
- Eight (8) years of experience in law enforcement, safety, security, emergency management, crisis response, cybersecurity, or a related field, some of which shall have been in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Advanced degree(s) beyond the minimum degree requirement in a relevant field may be considered for some experience.
- Knowledge of the principles, practices, methods, functions, and current trends related to school safety and security operations management, and cybersecurity.
- Knowledge of unique safety and security challenges faced by schools and government entities.
- Knowledge of security, camera, cyber, and radio communications equipment technology.
- Knowledge of applicable local, county, and state regulations, laws, and policies.
- Proficiency in the use of technology and data compilation, analysis, and reporting.
- Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate a comprehensive safety and security program.
- Ability to manage fiscal, physical, and human resources to successfully carry out the function and programs of the office.
- Ability to supervise, evaluate, and lead.
- Ability to facilitate meetings and/or present information to groups.
- Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with personnel assigned to schools, other departments, public entities, and citizens.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred Requirements:
- Completion of the Federal Emergency Management FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) courses.
