Chief of School Security and Emergency Management

Position Summary: This is a full-time on-site role located in Tampa, FL for a Chief of School Security and Emergency Management. Under the direction of the deputy superintendent, operations, the Chief of School Security and Emergency Management will manage the operations, logistics, and personnel of the School Security and Emergency Management Department and serve as the liaison to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) for any emergency-related situations. The Chief of School Security and Emergency Management will report directly to the Superintendent all emergency-related incidents, direct logistical support, and confer with the superintendent’s staff on such matters. As of July 1, 2018, and upon Senate Bill 7026 becoming law, this position is designated as the district School Safety Specialist.
Education: A master’s degree. Degree or formal training in criminology or related field preferred.
Experience: Ten (10) years of increasingly responsible experience in law enforcement or related field, with six (6) years of related management or supervisory experience preferred. Experience in public school administration, public school district administration, or other large diverse organizations preferred. Verified law enforcement experience may substitute for the Master’s education requirement on a basis of two (2) years of experience for each year of the educational requirement.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Law Enforcement Commission or State of Florida D and G licenses.
