Position Summary:

This position is over the Mountain Pine School District Police Department as Chief of Police/SRO. We have 3 staff that are certified to carry and are here for backup and security purposes. We also have a truancy officer, with a wealth of knowledge of our students and their backgrounds/situations. We are looking for someone to work closely with Administration/Staff/Students for security. Be present and if not let the Administration know so we have security. Get to know the students, if they feel you are here for them they will tell you information about issues going on, on campus. We need someone who will put on programs for our students such as drug and alcohol deterrence, sexting, cyber bullying, etc

Essential Functions:

  • Someone who will be on duty when students are outside interacting with students, such as lunch duty or early morning arrival and events. Someone who is not quick to write a ticket, but understands progressive discipline.
  • Someone who understands practicing appropriate safety procedures and partnering with other local law enforcement agencies to practice with drug dogs and to let students know this is a drug free zone.
  • Someone who knows the difference between lockdown vs lockout versus shelter in place, and can stay calm in an emergency situation.
  • Someone who will work with other school districts in our area SRO’s. Basically someone who will not just stay in their office but be visible and accessible. We are a small rural, high poverty community and need someone who recognizes the dynamics of situations that arise because of this.
  • Get to know our students/staff and understand their situations/circumstances and all the while enforcing for the safety of staff/students alike. Someone our students can look up to, respect, are genuine, consistent and feel safe.

Requirements:

  • Be ALETA Certified. Experience as a Chief of Police/SRO a plus.
  • Successfully pass a background check/fingerprints and Child Maltreatment Registry.
  • Citizenship, residency or work visa required
