Certified Police
Salary: $29.62 p/h ($64,690.00 – $68,643.00)
Closing Date: December 31, 2024.
Essential Functions:
- Patrols city streets, parks, commercial and residential areas to control vehicular traffic, prevent or detect and investigate misconduct involving misdemeanors, felonies and other law violations and to otherwise serve and protect.
- Interrogates suspects, witnesses and drivers.
- Preserves evidence and arrests violators.
- Undertakes community-oriented police work and provides assistance to citizens with such matters as stalled vehicles, crime prevention, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) and traffic safety.
- Conducts follow-up investigation of crimes committed during assigned shifts.
- Develops leads and tips, searches and processes crime scenes for investigative leads.
- Carries out duties in conformance with Federal, State, County and City laws and ordinances.
- Prepares cases for testimony and testifies in court proceedings.
- Prepares a variety of handwritten and computer generated reports and records, including officer’s daily log, reports of investigations, field interrogation reports, etc.
- Prepare reports, documents, logs and correspondence with basic and intermediate computer programs and software.
- Other essential duties and responsibilities as described in the job description.
- Completes other duties as designated by the Chief of Police.
Requirements:
- Graduate from an accredited Law Enforcement Academy
- Must possess a Valid Law Enforcement Officer Certification
- Must have completed parent agency FTO training program or at least six (6) months continuous experience with last parent law enforcement agency at time of hire. *Waiver will be considered on a case by case basis for extenuating circumstances
- High school diploma or GED equivalent
- Valid driver’s license that meets City’s insurability requirements
- No felony convictions, restraining orders, DWI convictions within 3 years, illegal drug use: marijuana within 3 years, domestic violence arrest(s) and convictions(s), dishonorable military discharge.
- No previous “resignations in lieu of terminations” from any L.E. agency.
- As part of the application process candidates not New Mexico Law Enforcement Certified will have to complete the Certification By Waiver Application Part 1 at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy website, https://www.lea.nm.gov/cert-by-waiver and send to the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy for approval.
- Must pass background check, and all applicable pre-employment screening and testing.
- Psychological examination on a case by case basis.
