Under General supervision, performs general-duty police work in the protection of life and property, the prevention of crime, the apprehension of criminal suspects, and the general enforcement of laws and ordinances in a designated area on an assigned shift. May be responsible for various areas of assignment as indicated in the “Illustrative Examples of Work” below. Reports to a Police Sergeant or officer of higher rank.
Minimum Requirements (Must meet by the closing date of the posting unless otherwise stated)
All applicants must:

  • Possess an Associate’s Degree or equivalent (i.e. 60 credit hours) from an accredited college/university, OR two (2) years of continuous certified law enforcement experience as a Police Officer or Correctional Officer OR two (2) years of service in the U.S. Armed Forces with an Honorable Discharge;
  • Possess an out-of-state Law Enforcement Certification;
  • Have the ability to enroll in the State of Florida Comparative Compliance course OR be currently enrolled in a State of Florida Comparative Compliance course OR possess a State of Florida Comparative Compliance certification (possession of FDLE certificate must be submitted prior to becoming a Sworn Police Officer with the Department);
  • Be nineteen (19) years of age at time of application;
  • Be a Citizen of the United States at the time of application;
  • Be a high school graduate from an accredited high school or have a GED;
  • Have the ability to possess a valid Florida Driver’s License by time of employment;
  • Have passed the Basic Motor Skills test (valid for six (6) months);
  • Have passed the Swim Test (valid indefinitely);
  • Be a Citizen of the United States at the time of application;
