Certified Police Officer – Lateral
Salary: $60798.00 – $64109.00 / Year
Position Summary:
Responsible for local law enforcement work in the protection of life and property and the enforcement of laws and ordinances.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for performing, under general supervision, duties in patrol, traffic, investigations, administration and support services.
- Safe operation of a motor vehicle during day and night time hours and in all types of weather while simultaneously observing people, places and things
- Standing, sitting, walking and driving for prolonged periods of time
- Responding to highly stressful, hostile and dangerous situations, quickly assessing the situation and taking action to reduce the danger and hostility
- Pursuing and subduing prisoners; controlling uncooperative individuals both orally and when necessary through physical restraint and physical confrontations using the minimum force necessary to affect the arrest
- Responding to scene of land or water accidents; performing the proper and necessary rescue functions; administering first aid; directing traffic; and performing other activities during day and night hours and in all types of weather and environments under unpredictable conditions
- Working overtime, shift work and being on stand-by when necessary
- Qualify with a firearm as required
- Qualify in self-defense skills as required
- Complete written reports accurately
- Use police radio and computer to communicate
- Lift or drag an object or body; stretch, bend, crawl, run, jump and perform other job related physical activities
- Overt, as well as casual, and at times, covert observation of people, places and things during day and night time and in all types of weather while patrolling on foot or in a vehicle. Includes being able to distinguish colors of vehicles, clothing or other objects.
- Hear and recognize sounds and voices associated with emergency situations and take proper measures to react and respond appropriately to audio information.
- Respond to calls for service from citizens; meeting and interviewing citizens in their homes, places of business, on the street or wherever required.
- Directs and coordinates the investigation of major crimes and incidences in coordination with other agencies
- Confers and collaborates with personnel from other agencies and departments and stakeholders to meet established goals
- Accurately prepares a variety of written correspondence, reports, procedures, ordinances and other written materials
- Wear body armor, gun belt, uniform, tactical gear and other equipment as required
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Graduation from high school
- Police certification by the Maryland Police Training Commission as a law enforcement officer.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license
