Certified Police Officer

Salary: $26.86 – $29.22 Hourly.

Essential Functions:

• Assist with patrol functions, including but not limited to enforcing laws, investigating criminal activity, ensuring public safety, handling calls-for-service (CFS), emergency responses, and other first responder duties.
• Serve in the Community Resource Unit as an SRO assigned to K-12 schools in the Harrisonburg City Public Schools (if trained as an SRO).
• Assist with calls for service related to Emergency Custody Orders (ECO) and Temporary Detention Orders (TDO), to include maintaining security of detained individuals and providing transportation of consumers to appropriate mental health facilities outside of the city limits.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• Currently certified as a Law Enforcement Officer through the Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), the Federal Government or another state.
• High School Diploma or GED. College Degree or Military Experience preferred.
• 21 years of age at time of application.
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien with an application for Naturalization filed and pending with Immigration Services, if DCJS-approved.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable record per City policy.
• Ability to work on a part-time basis. Schedule may vary depending upon business needs.
• Must live or be willing to move within a one (1) hour drive of Harrisonburg, VA.
