Campus Safety Sergeant
Salary: $17.00/hr.
Position Summary:
Responsible for providing safety and security for students, faculty, staff and visitors. Patrols the campus grounds and oversees the security department’s activities. Schedules shifts, plans and directs the work of other staff members. Issues parking authorizations and citations. This role may be required to work a fluctuating schedule to include nights, weekends, and at other campuses as scheduled.
Essential Functions:
- Guides, leads, reviews, observes, and manages security staff; schedule shifts, plan and direct work, monitor and evaluate performance of employees.
- Trains security staff in new techniques and briefs on special problems or important changes in policies and procedures and administers policies governing physical security of the college.
- Greets and directs visitors. Issues parking authorizations, citations, and related reports.
- Responds to security breaches and prepares and files reports describing incidents, accidents, or intruders.
- Communicates general and specific departmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures; monitors practices of the department to ensure compliance with college policies.
- Engages the campus community through working collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, and administrators to promote a safe and secure environment.
- Patrols campus and ensures safety for students, faculty, and staff; reports unsafe conditions and other safety concerns during patrolling duties.
- Communicates administrative and informational matters to college personnel and others through written and online methods, as necessary.
- Investigates disruptions or incidents on campus property.
- Opens and closes buildings, respond to alarms, maintain records, and monitor security surveillance.
- Attends workshops, seminars, or conferences to sharpen job related skills. Maintains on-going knowledge of policies, procedures, laws, and ordinances.
- Directs emergency medical personnel to appropriate area of the campus during emergency situations.
Requirements:
- Valid Florida driver’s license
- High school diploma or GED with additional training related to the position
- Two years of related experience
Preferred Requirements:
- Associate’s degree
- Supervisory experience
