Position Summary:

Montgomery College, has an immediate need for FT Campus Police Officers in the Office of Public Safety, Health, and Emergency Management. Please answer the shift and location information in the screening questions. The work schedule is 5 days/40 hours a week. These are Non-Bargaining, Non-Exempt, grade 19 position. For non-exempt positions, you are not eligible to work a secondary job at Montgomery College. Essential Functions:

  • Perform all duties of Public Safety Officer.
  • Patrol campus and facilities.
  • Enforce rules and regulations.
  • Respond to and investigate reports of incidents (i.e., theft, burglary, robbery, assault/altercations, personal injury, property damage, etc.).
  • Provide first responder assistance, including first aid, as needed.
  • Detain, apprehend, and arrest individuals as warranted by the situation.
  • Conduct interviews related to incidents.
  • Take custody of evidence and/or contraband.
  • Provide guidance and direction to other public safety officers as needed.
  • Prepare written incident and physical injury reports, inspections, routine security related reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Contact and coordinate with local law enforcement in the event of incidents or emergencies on campus as appropriate.
  • Monitor campus grounds and facilities via surveillance systems.
  • Communicate with the college community by providing information, mediating disputes, and advising of criminal and administrative processes.
  • Serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA), as outlined by the Clery Act.
  • Testify in court proceeding when required. Attend required training as mandated by the College.
  • Assist Facilities and college operations during inclement weather and be on site during college closings.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED. Graduate of a certified Maryland law enforcement academy within the last five years, or a graduate of an approved Maryland SPO entry level program, and able to obtain a Special Police commission within six months of hire.
  • Two years of experience as a certified campus public safety officer, law enforcement, corrections, or non-certified public safety officer.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Able and willing to work at any campus and on any shift.
  • Must pass a state background check as required by MSP Licensing.
  • Must pass a drug (CDS) screen.
  • Letter of good standing from previous law enforcement agency (if applicable).
  • Successful completion of Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT)-Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) training within six months of hire.
  • Current First Aid/CPR/AED Certification.
  • Certifications in using approved weapons, and use of force, as recognized by Montgomery College.
  • The equivalent combination of education, training, certification and/or experience that provides the required knowledge and expertise to perform the essential functions of the job may be considered.
