Campus Police Officer
Position Summary:
The campus police officer performs work involving the protection of life and property, the enforcement of laws and ordinances, the maintenance of order, and the investigation of crimes. The officer may perform specialized duties depending upon the individual officer’s training, abilities and needs of the department. The officer applies the community policing philosophy in a fair and impartial manner to all aspects of providing public safety services in a college environment.
Essential Functions:
- The campus police officer will perform all essential functions of a North Carolina Law Enforcement Officer including, effecting arrest; order maintenance; preparing investigative and accident reports; exercising independent judgement in search and seizure and arrest situations. The officer will also respond to calls for service, complaints, or reports of actual, possible, or potential occurrence of criminal activity.
- The officer will be required to effectively communicate with people in all situations; administer immediate assistance to community members in critical and/or emergency situations where the protection of lives and/or property may be endangered; maintain control when confronted with verbal abuse; administer medical assistance based on level of training; and transport and process detainees.
Requirements:
- Must possess certification as a Law Enforcement Officer in accordance with the provisions of the North Carolina Criminal Justice Training and Standards Commission (NC BLET certification).
- This position will be full-time. Some evening, holiday, and/or weekend work will be required. The position will include 12 hours rotating patrol shifts. May be required to work overtime, for, but not limited to, athletic events, Greek events, move-in/move-out, and commencement.
