Campus Police Officer
Salary: $20.9 per hour.
Position Summary:
The Police Officer is responsible for the enforcement of traffic and criminal laws and parking regulations. This position is governed by law enforcement standards, state and federal laws, and agency/institution policy.
Essential Functions:
- Protects students, faculty/staff and property.
- Prevents crime on campus. .
- Enforces college rules and policies.
- Provides building security, locks and unlocks doors as scheduled and provides building checks.
- Reports and records crimes and violations.
- Ensures traffic safety on campus.
- Assists and directs students as needed.
- Provides emergency services and stays abreast of inclement weather conditions.
- Escorts faculty and students to as needed.
- Monitors building access.
- Carries assigned duty weapon and police radio.
- Participates in training to include physical training and firearms.
- Performs any other related duties as required or assigned.
- Patrols College properties to detect and prevent violations of laws and regulations; arrest and detain offenders and issue citations as necessary; assist in providing traffic and/or crowd control during periods of high volume and density.
- Operate emergency and non-emergency vehicles and communications equipment; investigate traffic accidents, reports of criminal offenses, violations of institutional policy and other incidents; complete accurate and detailed reports; and defuse disturbances.
- Provide emergency first-aid and assist other law enforcement agencies and emergency personnel; respond to alarms; conduct interviews and searches as necessary; monitor roadways and parking areas for motorist and pedestrian safety.
- Use tactics, including force as trained and equipped, in preserving the safety of College community, oneself, and fellow officers; testify in court.
- Provide assistance as requested or needed by locking or unlocking buildings and offices; assist stranded motorists; communicate general and public safety information to students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
- Detect, investigate, and report breaches of facilities, property damage, missing property, and hazardous conditions; maintain uniforms and equipment; attend practical training.
- Maintain professional appearance and attitude; assist in safety and security planning and implementation for special events.
- Assist in planning and implementing public service programs and training.
- Responsible for maintaining a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner to foster teamwork and by providing leadership to subordinates. Requires consistent on-time attendance.
- Works in a dynamic team of diverse faculty, staff, and students in a fast paced environment. Frequent contact with employees, students, and the public.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma.
- Must possess valid Arkansas driver’s license and have a safe driving record.
- Be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment
- Be able to pass a Mental and Physical examination
- Be free of a Felony Conviction(s)
- Be free of Domestic Violence conviction in accordance with 18 USC section 922
- Be a US Citizen
- Be of good character has determined by thorough background investigation
Preferred Requirements:
- Current certified law enforcement officer (by CLEST) or related field
- Law Enforcement Officer experience
- Any other specialized law enforcement training
