Position Summary:

Provides safety and security services to students, staff, faculty, and visitors through efficient use of departmental resources.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs duties of Police Chief and supervise department during absence of Police Chief.
  • Develops “Special Event” plans and personnel schedules.
  • Assists in developing personnel shift schedules.
  • Shares “On-call duties.” Must be able to work any shift and respond/report as necessary.
  • During staff shortages or call outs must find staff to work.
  • Develops departmental documents, policies and procedures.
  • Oversees fleet duties and report mechanical issues to the Facilities Department.
  • Responds to all calls for service and request for assistance from Meredith College student, staff, faculty and visitors.
  • Supervises Security shifts and officers.
  • Patrols campus by vehicle or foot.
  • Oversees control of access to campus during closing hours.
  • Performs traffic control for events.
  • Effect arrests, forcibly if necessary.
  • Gathers information in investigations by interviewing or through performing searches. Exercises independent judgment in determining when there is reasonable suspicion to detain, search or arrest.
  • Supervises, trains, and corrects subordinates. Plans, organizes and directs activities of subordinates. Review reports written by subordinates.
  • Deals firmly and courteously with subordinates and the public.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • BLET and North Carolina Police Officer Certification.
  • NC Driver License and clear driving history is required.
  • General office setting with moderate noise.
  • Exposed to some outdoor weather conditions and driving requirement on and off campus.
  • Must be able to walk and/or run extended distances.
  • Must be able to climb stairs as needed.
  • Will occasionally lift 10-100 lbs.
  • Must successfully complete annually the state mandated In-service blocks of instruction.
