Salary: $21.54/hourly.

Position Summary:

The University Police Department supports this mission by playing a critical role in the safety and protection of all constituents and serving as a campus partner to other departments that address the needs of the students. The primary focus of this position is to provide continuous patrolling of the campus, responding to reports of crime, respond to calls for service and facility security. The Home Department will be the Carrollton location but on occasion will assist to cover the Newnan Campus on a rotating schedule.

Essential Functions:

  • Essential duties include collecting, recording and securing evidence from crime scenes, interviewing those persons involved, writing reports, and making arrests for violation of state law and local ordinances.
  • Other duties include assisting motorists, responding to medical emergencies, testifying in courts, serving as back-up dispatcher, assisting the Criminal Investigations Division and local law enforcement agencies as needed, serving criminal warrants and other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • U.S. Citizen, 21 years minimum age.
  • No felony or non-motor vehicle misdemeanor convictions, no more than 3 misdemeanors.
  • Pass Assessment Center.
  • Pass UPD Background Investigation.
  • Eligible for certification by the Georgia POST Council. Ability to carry and use a firearm safely and accurately.
  • Must be able to speak and write English in an effective manner.
  • Must be in good physical health, 20/20 vision or vision correctable to 20/20, ability to hear and speak clearly, walk, run, jump, and lift.
  • The position requires the possession of a current/valid Georgia Drivers License in good standing.
  • Ability to work overtime, if needed, and possession of reliable transportation and phone is required.
  • Must possess minimum computer skills or be able to learn to operate the computer programs utilized by the Department.
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Completion of an Associate’s Degree or two years towards a Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice or a related field, or 2 years as a certified police officer preferred.
  • Fluency in Spanish or another language is considered very desirable.
